Funny article

Take that Mark Cuban. I guess I’m not the only one thinking this. With all that money, you’ve got to be concerned with things bigger than an NBA basketball team, but this guy ain’t. By the way, the league fined him another 250,000 dollars. That makes 1,455,000 that the league has actually reported. They don’t disclose all fines apparently.

Also, for some really cool music, check 0ut Chocolate Swim on Adult Swim’s website. Some nice free downloads of good hip hop mixes. Nice, cool beats and good lyrical stream.

Hard week for the Mavs

Monday, June 19th, 2006

Well it looks like the Heat are undefeated at home against the Mavericks in this series. It’s going to be difficult for them to win in Dallas tomorrow, but you never know. The refs have finally figured out that just because Dirk’s hair is flying everywhere, someone isn’t necessarily fouling him.

It was a nice weekend. Didn’t do much on Friday as you might have figured, but Saturday was a good day. It started off with me driving Leslie to her hair appointment downtown and then heading over to Gold’s gym on 6th street. For those of you who already knew, you should have told me. There is a sign there that reads “Golds Gym”, but there is no Golds Gym. So I headed over to the 71/Ben White location and worked out for almost 3 hours. Then I headed back to pick Leslie up and we went home to get ready for the night. Then me, Leslie and Nolen went over to Jerry’s for some pre-fight fajitas and brew. I started getting drunk pretty early – so by the time we were going to hit the Frank Erwin Center, I was pretty toasty.

There were 6 fights on the card for the night and at least 4 or 5 KO’s. After the fights, we headed back over to Jerry’s for a bit more boxing. Jermain Taylor vs. Winky Wright on HBO. Booo-ring. A draw. Actually, I thought Taylor did enough to win. Winky’s arms have got to be bruised as hell from doing all that blocking. I counted in between Winky’s punches thrown and at one point, the duration was 30 seconds. That’s an eternity in a 3 minute round. Throw something once in a while Winky. Maybe someone will remember your name after you die. Or do you just want to be known as the guy that Jermain Taylor and Fernando Vargas beat up?

Sunday we spent lounging and recovering. We did eat some Dim Sum over at Tein Hong on Burnet, then we went over to the Dollar Tree and picked up a few items. On the way out, Leslie bought me a couple of Homies. We also stopped and bought that movie Fun with Dick and Jane. I love that movie. Lastly, we rented Munich and watched that before game 5 of the NBA Finals. Beautiful movie.

Take that

Two slaughters happened within the past 12 hours. At about 11 or 11:30 pm last night, the Miami Heat spanked the Dallas Mavericks for 24 points. Just a couple of hours ago, Argentina beat Serbia 6-0. For those of you who don’t know a lot about soccer, that is a severe beating. Just like my 401k in the past few weeks, teams have been taking beatings and are getting into the position of having to pick themselves off of the floor to come back and compete.

A shoe bomber blew himself up in a mosque this morning during prayers. Come on guys. Why? Let’s think about this. Nobody wants terrorism, no one needs violence and you are hurting more than yourself when you commit acts of terrorism. You are hurting your families, friends and fellow citizens. Why?

Anyway, it should be a nice rainy weekend. My grass could really use it too. Jerry invited Leslie, Nolen and I to his house before the fight for fajitas and beer. Should be sweet.

Lastly, I’m trying to stay in shape guys. I’m weiging about 167 today and I plan to get down to 155. That’s 12 pounds, but I might actually lose more. When I get back to Lords Gym to do a bit of boxing training, I can actually lose up to 3 pounds within one workout. Anyway, I just want to be stronger, lighter and faster. It’s nice to have a lot of energy and not feel lathargic all the time. I’ve cleaned up my diet for the past 3 days. Lots of cereal because of the whole grain and fiber. Just a couple of beers too. I’m sure this Saturday will be a different story on the diet front.

Good night

Thursday, June 15th, 2006

I went to sleep last night like at 9:30 or something. I was so tired. It was a long day yesterday at work and at the gym. I was looking for some deals online and I came across some Target coupons that came in handy. I bought a nice size box of Frosted Flakes for like $1.29. That will feed me for a couple of days. After work I headed over to Gold’s Gym for a quick workout and that’s just what I got in. I was in the sauna afterwards and there were some dudes talking about the immigration debate. One dude was from Cuba and you could barely understand what he was talking about but he had some ok points. I’ll be interested to see what the outcome of this whole thing is.

I like what Senator John McCain is saying though. He was talking about the numerous illegal aliens fighting in the Army. He said – “How am I going to tell a soldier who just had his arms blown off by a roadside bomb, – “Thanks for getting your arms blown off while fighting for our country, sorry I had to deport your entire family though.”"

I’d vote for him, at least for now. He seems to be the strongest candidate for the next presidency.

In World Cup news, Germany beat Poland yesterday by scoring a goal in the 91’st minute of the extended game. That was nice to watch. There are some good games coming up tomorrow. Argentina vs. Serbia & Montenegro, Netherlands vs. Ivory Coast and Mexico vs. Angola. Check ‘em out!

Finally

Dwayne Wade is awesome. He’s the brightest star in the NBA today. He’s also the only reason to watch the NBA Finals. Last night with roughly 6 minutes left in the game, the Heat were down by 13. That’s when D.Wade showed up and took over. The Heat finally came through with a win and now people have something to watch. However, they need another win to look respectable and to come even with the Mavs.

Josh, Maly looks adorable. Just read the montly letter to her and there are some beautiful pics on there.

Been watching any World Cup? Spain looks really good these days. The U.S. got spanked in the opening game against Czech Republic. It’s actually all pretty interesting. I never really watched that much soccer before. Even when I played soccer.

Crazy ass crackers

What is it with white athletes? My freaking hero Ben Roethlisberger got badly hurt in a motorcycle accident – one in which he was not wearing a helmet. For those of you who don’t know who big Ben is, well, he was the quarterback that led the Pittsburg Steelers to the Superbowl to win last year. Now J.J. Redick is charged with a DWI. Also, Jason Grimsley, a pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks has been suspended for 50 games ever since the feds raided his home and found perfomance enhancing drugs.

Too bad Barry Bonds is all over the media, oh wait, THEY STILL HAVEN’T FOUND ANYTHING ON HIM. After years and years of testing, accusations and more testing, – still nothing. Meanwhile, Mark Mcguire pumps himself full of steroids, horse muscle enhancers and ephedrine, but no attention to that whatsoever.

Anyway, enough of my racist rantings. Some good news, yesterday my boss told me that they’re looking to make me a Senior Financial Analyst over here at Time Warner. It’s not official yet, but I sure am happy that they are looking to move me up.

Another piece of good news, there is a live boxing event this weekend at the Frank Erwin Center. It’s called the “Rumble on Red River”. Richard Lord himself called me the other day to sell me some tickets and I informed him that I already have some courtesy of Time Warner. Can’t wait.

Long Days

Monday, June 12th, 2006

This weekend was not bad. On Friday, Lisa, Will, Cody, Leslie and I went out to Dave & Busters for dinner. We received the worst service imaginable. Everything took 20 minutes. To sit, 20 minutes, to get our drinks, another 20 minutes. It was ridiculous. That place blows when it comes to service. I would never go there if I were you. We ended up getting free powercards at the end of it because our service was so bad, but that didn’t make up for it at all. I would have rather had my meal for free as well as a 50 dollar payment for wasting my night. To top it all off, the food sucked. All in all, the whole night sucked. Dave & Busters in Austin sucks.

Saturday, we woke up and had breakfast. I was supposed to attend a sparring session at Lord’s gym at noon, but I slept in unfortunately. After breakfast, we got ready and drove to San Antonio to stay at Leslie’s parents house. We didn’t do much on Saturday night since we were going to be busy all day Sunday. IBM gave Leslie 2 tickets to Sea World with parking passes and a free lunch included. Sea World in San Antonio is huge. We had to have walked anywhere from 3 to 4 miles in the span of the day. We were there about 5 hours and did nothing but walk back and forth across the park. The “Great White” ride was a lot of fun. I didn’t particularly like the shows however. It was a bunch of humans dancing around and doing water arobics. I see humans everyday people. I come to Sea World to see sea creatures. There was all this dancing and whatnot. Finally I asked Leslie, “Where are all the fish?”

Anyway, on another note, Bernard Hopkins made boxing history on Saturday when he defeated Antonio Tarver to win the Light Heavyweight championship. The fight was boring, Tarver sucked, and Bernard will retire – easily taking the dishonor of being the least entertaining fighter that was ever born. Oscar De La Hoya marked Hopkin’s face up more than Tarver and DLH weighs about 60 lbs less on a daily basis.

Lastly, the Mavericks won easily on Sunday against the worthless Heat. Oh well. If only the Spurs weren’t cheated in that series. They would be crushing the Heat right now too. Good job Mark Cuban. Looks like you bought a championship. You spoiled rat of an owner. Go to hell.

Game on!

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

Tonight is game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Mavericks and the Heat. The format is 2-3-2 with the first 2 games in Dallas. I will probably be going to the gym after work and I hope to wash my car at some point but I’ll probably be watching that later on. Actually, since the Spurs aren’t in it, I would probably rather watch Nacho Libre with Jack Black but it’s not out yet. Alamo Draft house is having a sneak preview of that movie, but it’s sold out.

Today in history, a precision air strike in Iraq killed terroist al-Zarqawi who was supposedly the “Face of Terror”. I heard a comment by the former Terrorist Czar this morning that he wish he had done it. Pretty bold statement given that we’re getting our asses handed to us on a daily basis over there.

On a lighter note, a survey was recently done that concluded that college students prefer iPods over beer. What is happening to our college students. The Animal House days are definitely over.

El Maquinista

Wednesday, June 7th, 2006

After I came back from the gym last night, I popped open a bottle of wine, fired up the grill and cooked some steak. I hadn’t done the whole ‘red wine and red meat’ thing in a while and I had been craving that mix. It was definitely a worth while cause.

After the food was done, Leslie and I sat down to watch a great new movie with Christian Bale called “The Machineist”. Bale must have lost anywhere from 70 to 100 pounds for this role and once again he delivers a brilliant performance. The movie is called “The Machineist” – a.k.a. – “El Maquinista”. Check it out.

I didn’t get to install my iFill software last night, but I hope to soon. Gold’s Gym is building a new location right down the street from my house. I can’t wait until that one is open. I could in all actuality walk to the new gym. It is currently under construction.

Things to do

Tuesday, June 6th, 2006

Yesterday was pretty busy. I intentionally skipped the gym since I was tired and had too many things to do. When I got home, I checked the mail only to end up shredding about 5 credit card offers. Then I took out all the trash from every room and now the bin is full. Next I went upstairs to gather as many of my unwanted books as possible so that I could post them on Bookoid.

While chatting with Diego on GoogleTalk, I was watching a news story about construction at I35 and Yager. (Right down the street from my house) The construction is scheduled to go on for 8 months minimum. Traffic at the Parmer and 35 exit is snarled. I digress. After logging a couple of minor fixes on Diego’s website, Leslie and I went over to Wal-Mart to pick up her glasses and contacts as well as a couple of new pillows. I slept much better last night, but I still woke up tired this morning. Don’t you hate that?

Tonight I hope to get some software installed on my laptop that captures streaming radio. It’s called iFill and Jerry gave it to me for my birthday. I’ve been listening to a lot of rap/urban music on iTunes as well as some good house and techno. I figure I’d capture a session or two and upload it to my iPod to workout with. Anyway, I topped the night off with a couple of bouts on my new Fight Night Round 3 on Xbox. I became Middleweight Champ last night by beating Oscar De La Hoya. He’s really fast in that game. (And in real life I suppose) The Golden Boy’s demise was a nice segway since I received a 20 minute backrub immediately afterwords. I’ve been really stressed out lately and Leslie helped me out by doing that. Thanks baby.
